The Importance of a Morning Routine
From the moment you wake up, your mind begins to fill with information and tasks that lie within the day ahead. This overwhelming feeling can give mornings a bad name, and it is often that these times set the mood for the rest of your day. Mentally and physically preparing yourself for starting your day has a greater impact on those intrusive thoughts then one might imagine. To help prepare for the day, we have to understand the importance of having a morning routine and the benefits that it provides for the day ahead.
From psychological to physical benefits, morning routines help one develop healthy habits that optimize your time and give you more control over your tasks. Feeling in control allows you to have a greater chance of avoiding stress that could occur when you lack clarity and structure on how you plan to complete your responsibilities. This collected mindset has the power to carry you through the day with confidence in yourself and your actions, improving your self-esteem and boosting the amount of personal care in your day.
While morning routines have extensive benefits to your being, they don’t have to be so overly complicated that they become a hassle to accomplish each day. There can be a lot of pressure on how to start your own routine, but Marta Seremet, a fitness trainer with experience in mindfulness from Strivy Fitness, shared why she began a morning routine and what it entails.
Her decision to establish a routine stemmed from not being happy with how she felt during the day. It begins early, as Marta says, “by checking my phone, emails, and listening to the news first thing in the morning, I was unknowingly giving away my power and letting others decide how I felt. Instead of checking in with myself first to see how I felt and what I needed”. To welcome the day, she begun to wake up an hour earlier, leaving her phone outside her bedroom to ensure she didn’t hit snooze, drink a glass of water, and then go for a hill run. During that time she says her affirmations, “I am good enough, I am worthy, I am fearless, I am kind and loving’, in order to overcome negative thoughts. After her run, Marta then drinks a glass of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon. This helps “to boost her immune system, reduce inflammation and cleanse the system. It also simply feels so refreshing in the morning”.
To Marta, the importance of her morning routine “helps me feel accomplished, proud, and awake. I feel loved and taken care of by me. And, as a result, I am ready to give and support others”. With this sense of empowerment, she is able to take an extra boost of confidence with her throughout her day.
Beginning the day with a morning routine, filled with positivity and confidence, allows one to tackle to day with their personal selves in mind. Putting yourself first and developing healthy habits lets you be your best self that benefits how you feel and act the rest of the day. Marta found her own routine and shares her passion for mindfulness and fitness to help others.
